Advertising & featured listings
How we make money, stated plainly. Vendors can pay for a Featured listing that sits above the organic list and is clearly labelled. The organic listings stay alphabetical and fact-checked, and paying never changes them or our comparisons.
Two kinds of listing
The directory has an organic tier and a featured tier, and we keep them visibly separate:
- Organic listings are free. Within a category they are ordered alphabetically, we don't score or rank them, and every fact cites a public source. You cannot pay to change an organic listing's facts or position.
- Featured listings are paid. A vendor pays to be boosted to the top of a category they qualify for, with a richer profile, and the placement carries a visible Featured label everywhere it appears.
What a Featured listing gets
- Top-of-category placement, above the organic alphabetical list, labelled “Featured”.
- An enhanced profile: the vendor's own current pricing, expanded detail about the product, logo, additional reference links, and a link to their site.
- Optional featured placement on related pages.
Where we draw the line
Being featured buys a vendor's own placement and profile. It does not buy influence over anyone else, because that is what would make the directory useless:
- It does not reorder, downgrade, or edit the organic listings. Competitors are not moved to make room for a featured listing.
- It does not change our comparisons or “Choose X if” guidance. That content is written from public sources and is not for sale.
- Facts stay sourced. A featured profile is fuller, but it is held to the same public-source citation standard as any other listing. Paying does not let a vendor make claims we can't back.
- A featured listing is a paid placement, not an award. “Featured” does not mean “best”, and we do not present it as a rating or recommendation.
Why we spell this out
Plenty of directories blur paid and editorial so you can't tell which is which. We would rather tell you exactly where the money is: the Featured label is the paid part, everything else is not. That is also what advertising-disclosure rules expect. If anything on the site looks like an ad but isn't labelled as one, that's a mistake, and we want to hear about it.
